The relationship of the region with wine is particularly close, even from antiquity. Athenaeus quotes a passage from the Cypria Epic, which mentions that the "finest wine" enables people to dispel or forget their worries and problems. The wine of the region was famous throughout the East and Europe from ancient times, sometimes described as "delicate" and other times as "Cyprian nama." Wine remains one of the most important products of the island and its capital to this day.
